Late afternoon

My father confided to me during the weeks we spent at his brother-in-law's beach cottage that he regretted not having made more of himself. "You mustn't let it happen to you," he said. "Nobody is prepared for how quickly time passes, and you don't want to be one of those people who wakes up in the late afternoon with nothing to show for it."
